From the crown to the toe, top-full of direst cruelty
I also feel as if this quote brings back up the topic of unjust feminism. This idea that she needed to "unsex" herself before having such deep ideas, that a woman isn't capable of embodying this sense. She even pushes gender barriers when she refers to her husband as one who is full of "milk of human kindness". She doesn't even really replace her husband in this situation because he already was one who was not weak, but more soft. Lady Macbeth took a strong role and played her part in the future of her husband and herself.

I agree that Lady Macbeth did burn some gender role walls to the ground. In that time period women would have been seen as the weaker part in the relationship with the man being in control. However, LM does defy this. Since she thinks that hr man is too compassionate and kind, she sets out to be vicious and kill the king because even though Macbeth might want it for himself, he is too much of a wuss to go and get it himself.
ReplyDeleteI really like your opinion on the quote and Lady Macbeth. Lady Macbeth did not conform to societal expectations of women at that time. Lady Macbeth was the one who really craved power and pushed her husband to kill. I agree with your point that they sort of had opposite roles in the relationship that their gender normally had.
